S.E. PARC AGRO INDUSTRIEL DE BUKANGA-LONZO
WELCOME TO THE EXCITING FUTURE OF S.E. PARC AGRO DE INDUSTRIEL – THE BRAND NEW AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS PARK CONCEPT UNIQUE TO THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
This first-of-its-kind DRC government initiative commenced early 2014 when a special agreement was reached to start the development of agricultural sectors throughout the country. S.E. Parc Agro Industriel is essentially a concept of agricultural land development with the implementation of the necessary infrastructure to support a self-sustained economic unit. This large scale implementation includes not only the best in plantations but also support structures such as roads, water supply, power lines, housing, hospitals and schools and even a landing strip for aircraft.
The first sector development under the new S.E. Parc Agro Industriel initiative will be at Bukanga-Lonzo. Please continue to explore the following pages for more detailed information about this world famous project.

ABOUT US
The Agricultural Business Park of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was the first step to a great agricultural reform in terms of the thought processes in Central Africa towards the development of agriculture. The first phase of the Agricultural Business Park is focused on basic crop production (maize). Maize production is unique in that it forms the basis of nutrition for not only humans, but also animals. The production of maize in phase one will therefore form the basis for future animal feed production. Bearing in mind that the main focus is not only creating, a stable agricultural and farming industry but also a sustainable chain of production i.e. from the planting of the basis material (raw material in the form of maize) right through to the final product being a piece of meat in the form of chicken on the consumers’ table.
The first sector development under the new "S.E. Parc Agro Industriel" initiative has commenced in the district of Bukanga-Lonzo, some 260 km South-East of Kinshasa. This 80 000 ha farm and village development offers a new challenge, the first in Africa, of accomplishing the goal of using raw prime land to maximum advantage for all concerned.
Other sectors will follow the pilot project of Bukanga-Lonzo. Other land will be developed not only for effective farming, but also for livestock farming plus several villages all equipped with electricity, and also comprising all the necessary modern day living requirements such as schools, clinics, libraries to maintain this new development from the raw earth.

MAIZE DRYING AND STORAGE
Currently on the park we are busy drying maize that’s been harvested the past few weeks. Maize go through this process if the moisture percentage is too high for storage. After the drying process the maize is stored in silo bags
Coming soon
PUMP STATION AND DAMS
An intricate and state-of-the-art water supply scheme has been developed to make advanced irrigation on the farm possible. Water from the river is stored into a riverside reservoir for further distribution to the central pivot irrigation system. Two 630 mm steel pipes will convey water from the reservoir with super-powered pump installations to the plateau, 280 m upwards into a secondary reservoir. Pump booster stations will take the water 3.2 km further to two large lined dams from where it will supply the central pivots.
VEGETABLES
Carefully selected vegetable cultivars suited for economic food supply will be planted on the 1 000 ha of irrigated land. The vegetable agricultural unit will employ at least 5 000 labourers to cultivate the area by planting, weeding, and harvesting all-year produce. Specialized plant food will be applied to maximize growth and nutrient content of vegetables. Once harvested, vegetables will be stored in warehouses from where it will be cleaned, processed and distributed as fresh produce.
TRAINING CENTRE
A fully-equipped Training Centre will be erected towards the end of 2014 as the hub of labour-related education. Skills-related training will be a major and on-going focus at the S.E. Parc Agro Training Centre with professional tutors using the best in technology and teaching techniques. Machine-specific education will form part of this general agricultural information centre, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of every aspect of farming and land cultivation.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES
To complete the housing development at S.E. Parc Agro de Bukanga-Lonzo, well-planned and placed facilities will be built to ensure a balanced social lifestyle for residents. The church will provide the necessary gathering point to worship and engage in fellowship. Sport facilities such as a soccer field will further enhance recreational activity of the residential area.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
To aid and equip local village farmers in small-scale agriculture, the WALK BEHIND TRACTOR cultivator is available to at least 1 500 local farmers. This implement is easy to operate, effective and long-lasting in harsh African conditions. It is furthermore highly cost-effective in terms of fuel consumption and labour input costs. Development of agriculture production at micro-level is of importance to sustainable food production and food security.
CHICKEN PROJECTS
An advanced chicken production unit will be established on the farm for the production of various products. 50 000 baby chicks will be flown into the farm daily and kept in hi-tech chicken growing pens. A hatching unit is planned to be active within 12 months after the large-scale marketing of the first grill-chickens. Between 45 000 – 50 000 chickens will be transferred daily from the chicken growing pens to the on-site abattoir for processing and packing. Finished chicken meat products will be moved to the cold storage facility from where it will be distributed through the cold-chain transport system to Marché International and other wholesalers.
ABATTOIR
A fully-equipped highly functional abattoir will form part of the chicken production unit. This abattoir will comply with international health standards. Slaughtering and processing of fresh chicken meat will occur daily to make speciality cuts and packaging possible. As an integral part of the fresh meat supply-chain, the abattoir will utilise skilled labour and precision equipment to ensure quality output.
COLD STORAGE
Freshly harvested and processed vegetables together with freshly packed chicken meat will be stored and managed in a cold storage facility on the farm. These advanced and automated product preserving storerooms form the foundation of the food cold-chain system. Various temperatures according to specific product and lifespan requirements can be accommodated and applied throughout the entire cold storage facility from where distribution can take place.
PACKAGING
The custom packaging of processed vegetables and chicken will take place on the farm by trained packers. A variety of package options of special meat-cuts and ready-to-use vegetables will become available and distributed from the cold storage facility to various markets. This process is vital in the fresh produce supply-chain of locally grown food products and the import and export thereof. Effective packing principles preserve fresh produce naturally to ensure maximum shelf-life.

DISTRIBUTION
Once fresh produce including cultivated vegetables and packed chicken is ready to be taken to the marketplace, products will be transported from the cold storage facility to the off-set points in and around Kinshasa. Logistics will include the use of 50 sophisticated 10 ton cool trucks to convey freshly preserved produce to markets such as the Marchè International and other destinations. Distribution of products will be daily and ongoing, 365 days of the year.
ORCHARDS
NitreX™ will be applied as a top dressing with a TRIOMF foliar feed later to enhance perfect fruit production within this initial fruit orchard.
SCHOOL
The building of a multi-level school incorporating pre-school, primary and secondary school facilities, to be completed by June 2015.
